Estimates are for guidance only. Coverage rates, pack sizes and prices vary by brand — always confirm quantities with your supplier before buying.

Packs, not square metres

Flooring is sold by the pack, and pack coverage varies between brands — anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 m² is common for laminate. The number printed on the pack is what matters, so enter your chosen product's coverage rather than assuming. Because you can only buy whole packs, the real spend is always rounded up, which this tool does for you.

Waste and future repairs

Ten percent waste covers cuts and offcuts in a normal rectangular room. Add more for diagonal or herringbone layouts, and consider keeping a spare pack aside — if a board is damaged years later, matching the exact décor and batch is often impossible.

Frequently asked questions

How many packs of laminate do I need?

For a 20 m² room with 10% waste and packs covering 2 m², you'd need 11 packs. Pack coverage varies by brand, so always use the figure on your chosen product.

Do I need underlay?

Most laminate and engineered floors need underlay for cushioning, sound and moisture protection unless it's pre-attached. Set the underlay price to zero if yours already has it built in.

How much waste should I allow?

Ten percent is standard for straight-laid rooms. Increase to fifteen for diagonal patterns, L-shaped rooms or spaces with lots of doorways and obstacles.
