Roll width drives the real cost

Artificial grass comes in fixed roll widths — usually 2m or 4m — and you pay for full widths whether you use them or not. A lawn that's slightly wider than a single roll width forces you into a second band and a join, which can push the area you actually buy well above your lawn's true size. This calculator accounts for that so the estimate matches what you'll be charged.

Pile direction and joins

All pieces should be laid with the pile running the same way, or joins become obvious. Planning your cuts around the roll width to minimise joins saves both money and a patchy-looking finish, which is why the width choice above matters as much as the area.

Frequently asked questions

How much artificial grass do I need?

Slightly more than your lawn area, because grass is sold in fixed-width rolls and needs a waste allowance for shaping. A 6m x 4m lawn from 4m-wide rolls means buying two bands, so more than the flat 24 m².

What extras do I need to lay it?

Typically a weed membrane, joining tape and adhesive, and ground pins or pegs, plus a sand or aggregate base for a proper installation. The extras line lets you add these into the total.

Why is roll width so important?

Because you pay for the full roll width. A lawn a little wider than one roll forces a second band and a join, significantly increasing the area purchased — sometimes it's cheaper to design the space around the roll width.
