Estimate
Estimates are for guidance only. Coverage rates, pack sizes and prices vary by brand — always confirm quantities with your supplier before buying.
Costing a whole room, not just one material
Most calculators price a single material, which is why room projects so often overshoot — the paint was budgeted, but the underlay, the trim, the door bar and the skip hire were not. This tool pulls the main costs into one running total so the number you see is closer to what you'll actually spend. Set any line to zero to leave it out.
What to include in trim and sundries
The small costs add up fast: masking tape, filler, caulk, sandpaper, roller sleeves, dust sheets and white spirit can easily reach £30–50 for a single room even before the main materials. Building that in from the start prevents the classic mid-project top-up trip that quietly inflates the budget.
Should you add labour?
If you're doing the work yourself, leave labour at zero and treat the total as materials only. If you're getting quotes, entering a tradesperson's figure here lets you compare the all-in cost of DIY against paying someone, which is often the real decision behind a room refresh.
Frequently asked questions
What's a realistic budget to redecorate a room?
A straightforward DIY room refresh — paint, new flooring and sundries — often lands between £250 and £600 in materials, depending heavily on the flooring chosen. Labour typically adds a few hundred pounds more per room.
Can I use this for a whole house?
It's designed per room for accuracy, but you can run it once per room and add the totals. Doing it room by room is more reliable than one whole-house guess because ceiling heights and flooring often differ.
Does the flooring price include fitting?
Only if you include it in the per-m² figure or the labour line. Supply-only flooring prices are usually quoted per square metre; fitting is charged separately, so add it under labour if you're not laying it yourself.
